In this fifth issue of our HOMEDEM newsletter, we bring you the latest project updates and news from the dementia field.

Training School Galway

In May 2025, the DCs attended their final Training School at the University of Galway, Ireland. Held on 19–23 May, the event brought together leading researchers and professionals in dementia care, technology, design and policy. The programme featured plenary sessions, lectures, panel discussions, which offered a valuable platform for networking and exchanging innovative ideas in dementia research.

World Alzheimer’s Day, 21 September 2025
World Alzheimer’s Day is a global opportunity to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote understanding of dementia. This year’s theme continues to highlight the importance of early diagnosis, support, and research in improving the lives of those affected. Update on Training Secondments

The DCs are in the final stages of their training secondments across various regions in Europe. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all the organizations involved for their valuable partnership and support throughout this process. Your collaboration has been instrumental in making the projects impactful and meaningful.

HOMEDEM at Alzheimer’s Europe Conference 2025

At the Alzheimer Europe Conference 2025, the HOMEDEM symposium will take participants through a “day in the life” of a person with dementia. The session explores how relationships, play, food preparation, nighttime experiences, and interior design shape autonomy and well-being at home—while also considering the wider policy and economic frameworks that influence care. Join us at the conference to gain a holistic perspective on progressive, human-centered approaches to dementia care emerging across Europe.

More activities coming up in Alzheimer Europe Conference: Policy dialogue and our second meeting with the European Working Group of People with Dementia

Alongside our symposium, HOMEDEM will also be part of two key activities at the Alzheimer Europe Conference 2025. We invite policymakers and influencers to join the Prologue—an interactive policy dialogue designed to spark fresh ideas and collaborative solutions for the future of dementia care (register here!). We will also have our second meeting with the European Working Group of People with Dementia to share findings and gather feedback, keeping our research closely connected to lived experience.
